My God is it August already!
| Hey Everyone. I hit the deck running when I came back from my wonderful trip to New England. I will have those pictures up soon. I have been invovled in 3 of the plays in the summer rep series. (list is to the right) So I haven’t had much time to do much else. Except.... Wrote a One Act for Troupe in a Trunk last week. Sandy Davison came to me a week an a half ago and wanted a play about King Arthur for K - 6th grade. In record time I finished it. I like it. I named it The Age of King Arthur. Very funny and for kids. Have a meeting with the powers that be on Monday 25th to see if they want any changes. Noooo. I have not heard anything on my submission of my newest full-length play, Legend of the Flying Dutchman. Murray has read it and Sandy took it on vacation but I haven’t heard whether they like it or not, hopefully, they will select it for the 2009-2010 season. I believe they make that descision later this year. Keep your fingers crossed. As all of you know my second Directing gig will be The Outsiders. My biggest concern right now is the set. Me being who I am, I wrote S.E. Hinton on her website . . . here’s the letter |
| Dear Ms. Hinton I am directing The Outsiders play version Spring 2009 at the Venice Theatre in Venice, Florida. It is my second directing job. I have been an actor since I was 11 and have recently made the career switch. Like every other American, The Outsiders had a profound effect on me in my youth. Read it in ‘75, again in college and three times in the last two months. I would like your opinion on a concept I have developed for the set. I write to you because of your involvement in the location search for the 80s film. I do not see a conventional set. We are producing this in our black box. I believe set pieces scattered throughout the space would serve the story better. For example, the Drive-In sign in glorious neon and the looming Drive-In screen itself (which would show a 60s movie playing periodically, Dallas’ death, (not seen in the play) the church fire, the rumble itself) Other pieces would include, the phone booth, chain link fence, a street light, the small interior of their home sparsely furnished off in a corner. A rusty swing set beneath the Drive-In screen. Table and chairs beneath the Drive-in sign. Any ideas or thoughts would be so greatly appreciated. On a personal note, thank you for simulating my adolescent brain with your wonderful stories. My best, Ronald Myroup rkm5@verizon.net www.ronaldmyroup.com | |
